    AnchorFree is a California-based company. It was founded in 2005 by two young friends, David Gorodyansky and Eugene Malobrodsky who were motivated by the willingness of making a significant impact in the lives of millions of people across the world. They first started by providing free sponsored WiFi Hotspots but quickly reoriented their focus towards building apps that would empower a greater number of people.

At AnchorFree, we pride ourselves with owning 100% of the Hotspot Shield server infrastructure and the code base. We do not rely on any other 3rd party service or code to provide the Hotspot Shield service. This enables us to guarantee the privacy of our users. We offer the most competitive price because our ultimate goal is to provide universal online security, privacy and access to content for every user globally. Thanks to our freemium model, the revenue generated from ads via our Free version enables us to guarantee the gratuity of the service and offer a more affordable premium subscription compare to other companies.

    Our goal is to give our users solutions to enable them get their online privacy back and make sure their info is secure from preying eyes. So in no way, we'd want to do the opposite! We do NOT collect nor store any of their online activities or Personally Identifiable Information when they use the service. Examples of Personally Identifiable Information include name, email address, mailing address, mobile phone number, and credit card or other billing information. Any browsing information, or other similar information relating to our users' online activities, or what they send to our servers while using Hotspot Shield is cleared after their Hotspot Shield "session" ends.

    We made our apps free so that any Internet user can benefit from our online privacy, security and access solutions. As you know, nothing is free in life! So in order to cover Hotspot Shield operating costs, we launched an ad-supported version and offer a premium version for those who wish to enjoy premium benefits (no ads, access to virtual locations, faster speed...). The revenue generated by ads and the sales of Elite memberships enable us to guarantee the gratuity of the service.
