History
AnchorFree was founded in early 2005 by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs that wanted to significantly impact the way users and advertisers engage in out of home environments. David Gorodyansky and Eugene Malobrodsky (co-founders of AnchorFree) have been friends all through high school and college. Their passion for revolutionary technologies evolved over the years and brought them together to start AnchorFree.
AnchorFree set out to enable consumers with Free Wi-Fi and revolutionary privacy. Together with friends from Stanford, San Jose State, and USF the team started developing the technology for Wi-Fi to be ad-supported and for advertisers to have an effective communication vehicle at the convergence of "out of home" & "online advertising." The company set out to differentiate from every other media company, by focusing on consumer privacy and data protection as the first priority. Thus AnchorFree has been able to launch the most private online ad network in the world.
In late 2005 the founders met with Bert Roberts. Bert Roberts is the former Chairman & CEO of MCI and also served on the board of News Corporation. Bert Roberts and the AnchorFree founders decided to work together towards turning AnchorFree into a global media leader on Wi-Fi advertising and user privacy.
AnchorFree's investors include Bert Roberts (former Chairman & CEO of MCI); Esther Dyson (Board Director of WPP); Denis Nayden (former Chairman of GE Capital); Richard Rainwater (President of Rainwater Inc.); Renaissance Capital Group.
Since then AnchorFree has launched a global hotspot media network with thousands of broadband networks at airports, hotels, and coffee houses powered by AnchorFree's technology & advertising. With over 200 million monthly page views advertisers utilize AnchorFree as a medium to reach specific locations with exact certainty. AnchorFree enables advertisers to engage mobile laptop and iPhone users with their brand through out the entire broadband experience of the user, through AnchorFree's proprietary "Digital Browser Billboard."
